Thelma hugging the leaning round tower of Kilmacdaugh, Ireland, February 2006

Kilmacduagh sits at the edge of the Burren, some 5km south-west of Gort, in Co. Galway (on the border of Co. Clare). In the medieval period, its cathedral, which is now a ruin, was a very important church. It is the site of Kilmacduagh monastery, seat of the diocese of that name (now part of the Diocese of Galway and Kilmacduagh). Its famous round tower, which Thelma is hugging here, leans like its very famous counterpart in Pisa. It was one of the lovely iconic places in Western Ireland we visited in 2006.
