The Erechtheion - the temple in the backgound - on the north side of the Acropolis has an interesting history (read about it on Wikipedia). I (Las) was keen to see it in reality because I had learnt about it at school, and in art history lessons this building was shown as the typical example for the use of 'caryatids' (kariatids), and I was thrilled by them. So, we had a close look with Thelma. (The ones on the Acropolis today are copies.)
