Thelma among the ruins of the monastery ... Iona is a small island in the Inner Hebrides, off the Ross of Mull. It is mainly known for Iona Abbey, which was the main influential centre of Gaelic monasticism for three centuries. The abbey was founded by Saint Columba. Las had read a lot about Iona and Saint Columba, so visiting this legendary and historic place was an exceptional experience. Following the establishment of the Kingdom of Scotland in the later 9th century it became an important spiritual centre for the new kingdom. The ruling dynasty of Scotland traced its origin to Iona. Many of Scotland's early kings are buried here, including the real Macbeth (King of Alba - 11th c.) We came by ferry from Oban via Mull. We'll zoom in to Thelma in the next picture ...
