December 2004 .... You can see someone else just emerging from the cave entrance after the trip. Typical of the laid-back Icelanders, the bus driver told us that this had been the first time he had driven a bus, for which he didn't even have a licence. Typical of the prices then in Iceland, every excursion cost exactly £100/person. But it was well worth it - a unique opportunity - there aren't many lava tubes on the whole planet you can climb into and walk about in. Although, they did mention that sometimes the precarious ceilings of these caves can fall in ("cave in").
