Calais

Calais turned out to be a very pleasant place, where we spent a few very delightful days. The British crowds who dash through further into the Continent don't realize what a nice little place this is. Among other things, we brought back some horse "flesh" from here (as Thelma's mother called it, not willing to honour it with the designation of "meat" - though, she did have a horse steak, proving her claim that during the time of rationing soon after the War she did eat horse "flesh" in a London restaurant).
